Army body composition calculator (WHtR)
Use this Army body composition calculator to estimate waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) from height and waist. It is not a body-fat percentage or tape-test tool. Army Directive 2026-13 replaced legacy height-and-weight and tape processes with WHtR. Measure at the navel, then compare against the 0.55 standard described in AD 2026-13.

How to use
- Measure height in inches (or convert feet/inches to total inches).
- Measure waist circumference at the navel in inches, following current Army measurement guidance.
- Enter both values. The tool divides waist by height and compares the ratio to 0.55.
- Treat the result as a screening aid — commander and medical guidance control official determinations.
Examples
Example (illustrative): height 70 in, waist 38 in → ratio 0.543, under the 0.55 threshold on the encoded rule.
Example (illustrative): height 68 in, waist 40 in → ratio 0.588, above the 0.55 threshold on the encoded rule.
Enter height and waist to compute WHtR.

Frequently asked questions
- Is WHtR the same as HtWR?
- Yes for this tool. The Army acronym is WHtR (waist-to-height). Green Book may label the same calculation HtWR in product copy.
- Does this replace the tape test?
- Follow AD 2026-13 and your unit’s current ABCP process. This calculator only estimates the ratio from the numbers you enter.
- Is this an Army body fat calculator?
- No. It estimates WHtR from height and waist you enter. It does not calculate body-fat percentage and does not apply a circumference tape method. Those legacy approaches were replaced by WHtR under AD 2026-13. Official determinations stay with your unit.
